Pauline and Harlan Torbert of Grass Valley celebrated 60 years of marriage recently. They were married March 16, 1942, in Kansas.

They marked the occasion with a small dinner party in Sacramento with immediate family members.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Torbert were born in Kansas. Mr. Torbert came to California in 1937, briefly returning to Kansas to marry Pauline in 1942, then bringing his bride west.

Their children are Paula Gust of Orangevale and Diana McLeod of Sacramento. There are three grandsons: Roy Gust Jr. of Natomas, Harlan Gust of Grass Valley and Graydon McLeod of Sacramento; two great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Torbert retired from Pacific Motor Trucking in 1979 after serving the Grass Valley/Nevada City/Colfax/Truckee area for 34 years. He is a World War II veteran of the 8th Army Air Corps.

Until most recently, their hobbies were gardening, crafts, traveling in their fifth wheel and spending the winter months in Arizona.

The Torberts have lived in Nevada County for 57 years.
