The Nevada City Elks Club was the site of the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Jim and Betty Patterson of Grass Valley.

The Pattersons were married Aug. 1, 1952, in Sunnyvale.

Family members and friends gathered for a dinner in honor of the occasion which was presented by the Pattersons’ son Brad Patterson and his wife, Susie. Daughter Julie Eason of Grass Valley helped with decorations, and daughter Nancy Patterson of Anchorage, Alaska, sang “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Special guests included Mrs. Patterson’s 98-year-old mother, Selma Hubert of Nevada City and the couple’s four grandchildren.

Mrs. Patterson was an elementary school teacher for almost 30 years in the Nevada City School District.

She is a member of California Retired Teachers Association and is active in the American Baptist Women’s Ministries.

She directs the choir at First Baptist Church of Nevada City.

Mr. Patterson is a retired building contractor. He volunteers for places like Sierra Pines Baptist Camp.

He is an active member of First Baptist Church of Nevada City.

Both Pattersons enjoy traveling on tours and in their fifth wheel.

The Pattersons have lived in Nevada County for 28 years.
