David and Joyce Merrill of Grass Valley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently. They were married twice in October 1952: they eloped to Minden, Nev., on Oct. 4, then re-married in a second ceremony in Grass Valley Oct. 25, 1952.

They celebrated their anniversary with a family dinner party at their daughter’s home.

The Merrill children are Teresa and Terry McLaughlin of Chicago Park, and Diana and Ric Trathen of Grass Valley. There are nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Merrill is a retired mason. He is a member of the Grass Valley Elks Lodge and Grass Valley Sportsman’s Club. He enjoys spending time at Weaver Lake and snowmobiling.

Mrs. Merrill is a retired tax preparer. She enjoys bowling, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Merrill moved to Grass Valley from Utah when he was four years old. Mrs. Merrill was born and raised in Grass Valley.
