Anniversary – Mecartea


Maj. Louis and Betty Mecartea celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary recently. They were married Sept. 29, 1942, in Battle Mountain, Nev.

A party was presented by the couple’s children, Maureen McCullough of Nevada City and Michael Mecartea of Grass Valley.

The party was well attended by grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, longtime friends and family members from Northern and Southern California.

The Mecarteas have six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Mecarteas owned and operated Clay Mates Ceramics in Cedar Ridge from 1972 until 1987.

Maj. Mecartea is a retired army officer. He is recuperating from a stroke.

Mrs. Mecartea is a ceramist and painter. She enjoys listening to audio books and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Mecarteas have lived in Nevada County for 31 years.
