Anniversary – Gibbs

Vince and Grace Gibbs of Grass Valley celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary recently. They were married Aug. 16, 1942 in Kiowa, Okla.

The couple eloped and were married in a double wedding ceremony performed by a minister after Sunday evening church services. The ceremony was held outside, and the only light was provided by the headlights of the minister’s car. The car battery went dead and the grooms had to push the car after the ceremony to get it started.

A family gathering honoring the couple will be at a later date.

The Gibbs’ children are Jim Gibbs of Penn Valley and Ron Gibbs of Corona.

There are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gibbs is retired from Southern California Gas Co. His interests include reading, walking, outdoor activities, and wildlife- and bird-watching.

Mrs. Gibbs is a retired press maker. She enjoys reading, walking and outdoor activities.

The couple has lived in Nevada County for 17 years.
