Angry people

What has happened to us?

I am new to this area and have looked forward to reading the I&O page of The Union. I was hoping it would give me an idea of what the community was about. At first, it seemed The Union printed a cross-section of ideas and beliefs. Now, over the past month, I am wondering if that is true.

What I am reading here are the feelings of angry people who, I believe, do not feel all that secure in their own beliefs, so they name-call, (“Understand desperation,” June 24), project and whine if others are not in agreement with what they believe.

I would like to think that this page is for the exchange of ideas and opinions. When one has to resort to name-calling and belittling another for their beliefs, then it ceases being opinion and turns into something else.

Most of the people doing the name-calling were people with beliefs of a more conservative viewpoint. I fear that is in part why the world is in the mess it is. If anger is not addressed, it leads to fighting, name-calling and war.
