An emperial presidency

Not long after the Supreme Court appointed Bush as president, he opined that it would be much easier for him to govern as a dictator. Since then he has made every effort to exercise regal, dictatorial powers, regarding himself as above the law and answerable to no one.

Is there anyone so naive today as to doubt that if a Democratic president acted in the same arrogant, reckless, dictatorial (and incompetent) manner as King George the W, Republicans would be wailing, tearing their hair, foaming at the mouth and trampling over one another in their rush to file bills of impeachment?

In the words of Benjamin Franklin, “Those who would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither.”
