An embarrassment to state

Michael Newdow probably never read the words of wisdom: “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God!'” (Psalm 14,1); otherwise he would not have pushed through the courts his absurd claim that a prayer at President Bush’s inauguration, “would force him to accept unwanted religious beliefs.”

For over 200 years a prayer was a part of the ceremony. Two lower courts rejected Newdow’s request because, “he could not show actual injury in hearing the prayer.” Nobody was forcing the atheist to listen. By his own admission he hates God. But that does not give him a right to suppress religious beliefs to the rest of us.

By his inappropriate lawsuits Mr. Newdow made himself an embarrassment to California and to the legal profession.
