American dream pays off

I’m a baby boomer now but back in college (1978) my college professor said “home prices are going up so fast you students will never be able to afford a house”. Great encouragement, huh? In 1981, at 21, I bought a modest home in Sutter County for $36k. During the ’80s, I bought several other rental homes all under $100k. In 1991, I bought on Red Dog road – for $140k. In 2002 I bought a home in Nevada City for $375k. Building wealth in real estate takes time, you have to start small so you may have to relocate to a more affordable area and then work your way back into a higher priced area. Incidentally, that little modest home in Sutter County is worth about $200k today, which is about a 556 percent increase – that’s an American Dream reality.
