A nation of fear

George Orwell and Franz Kafka are groaning while Joseph Goebbels and Richard Nixon are grinning their joy as they observe, like the American public, the slow, steady, silent, stealthy undermining of U.S. constitutional guarantees in the name of “anti-terrorist” security. We are witnessing in this country a form of “dysfunctional” cultural revolution based on propagating fear.

From renditions, incognito imprisonments, stealth abductions, steadfast unwillingness to renounce use of abuse and torture on detainees, presidential signed statements that negate the bill as passed by Congress gutting the bill, unbridled surreptitious domestic electronic monitoring, and incipient militarization of the American side of the Mexican border reveals a carefully designed anti-terrorist security program frenzy creating a national sense of fear, paranoia and chaos.

These issues have to be discussed objectively with conclusions based on actuality, and not on the propaganda of big brothers by George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Karl Rove accompanied by big sister Ms. Condoleezza Rice and reverse the threat to change America in ways that “America” is no longer the beacon of liberty and freedom it once was.
