A nation established on the rule of law

If you don’t read your local paper regularly, you get blindsided. You pick it up, and it’s like listening to George Bush speak and then suddenly hearing “Hey Bungalow Bill, What Did You Kill.”

To all the Christians who write in regularly to declare the U.S. a country established under “the guidance, direction and banner of Almighty God,” might one remind them: This is a country established on the rule of law – law that has nothing to do with anyone’s God but is founded in those principles of the European Enlightenment that establish religious freedom, not religious bigotry.
