3 local organizations awarded funds

Three community organizations received more than $50,000 in community grant funds awarded in western Nevada County by Catholic Healthcare West, the parent company of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.

The following grants will be presented at a hospital luncheon today:

— Hospice of the Foothills, Grass Valley, $21,000. The grant will allow that organization to expand accessibility of services and care to terminally ill patients.

— Kare Crisis Nursery, Inc., Grass Valley, $20,000. The funds will be used to help open a crisis nursery to provide a safe environment and respite care for small children whose parents are in turmoil.

— Miners Community Clinic, Nevada City, $11,400. The grant will help provide access to specialty physicians either on site or via telephone.
