Zachary Smits

Visitation for family and friends of Zachary Jordon Smits of Grass Valley will be from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary. Pastor Andy Owens will officiate the services.

Zachary died Tuesday, April 5, in Grass Valley. He was 11.

He was born Jan. 19, 1994, in Sacramento to Robert Alan Smits and Amy Louise Stark. He attended fifth grade at Alta Sierra Elementary School. He played soccer with Gold Country Soccer League and was involved in martial arts. He enjoyed collecting keys and locks, playing his Game Boy and Xbox, listening to music, watching TV and movies, riding his bike and swimming.

He is survived by his grandparents John and Ann Klein of Grass Valley; sisters Kimberly Duer and Michelle Smits, both of Grass Valley; father, Robert Smits of Sacramento; mother, Amy Stark of Sacramento; and aunt and uncle, Kris and Aaron Knopp of Austin, Texas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
