Bear River FFA returns to national convention

The Bear River chapter of the Future Farmers of America will represent California in the national FFA Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event, beginning Wednesday in Louisville, Ky.

The Bear River team, which will compete during the 75th national FFA convention, consists of Jen Arnall, Kevan Bell, Robert Harris, Carl Payne, Dustin Spence, David Tritel and alternate Liz Guerra. The team is coached by Steve Paasch.

This is the fourth time in the last six years that Bear River has represented the state in the national competition. The 1998 squad won the national competition, and the other three teams finished in the top five.

Bear River’s three voting delegates at the convention are Ginger Thirlaway, Tyler Blagg and Luke Browning. Angela Browning, a Bear River alum and past national FFA president, will be a workshop presenter.

NU singers to perform with Bay Area ensemble

Singers from Nevada Union High School will participate in the third annual Youth Choral Festival in San Francisco Friday.

Members of Chanticleer, a Grammy-winning, internationally known 12-man a cappella ensemble from the Bay Area, will spend the day working with more than 180 students from six Northern California high schools. At 7:30 p.m., the students will perform a concert with Chanticleer at First Unitarian Universalist Church.
