Workshop will help re-energize worship service

Faith congregations looking to re-energize their membership will find ideas for improving worship services, youth ministry, family ministry and lay leadership at a daylong workshop set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in Grass Valley.

Inspiring liturgical expert Sandra Dager will be the keynote speaker at the gathering, hosted by the Sacramento-based Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and offered at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 W. Main St., near downtown Grass Valley.

Worship can be seen as an attempt by humans to move closer to the divine. Dager will invite participants to look at worship through the lens of human posture, rhythm and energy patterns to see how they influence worship. Culture, worship space, leaders’ skill sets and a congregations’ context also come into play.

Afternoon workshops will cover leadership in worship, offered by Dager; building vital relationships in youth ministry; developing ministry to families and children; lay leadership; organizing youth acolytes; spiritual growth in your congregation; and a forum for congregational treasurers. Lunch will include a question-and-answer period with synod staff. Youth and youth leaders are welcome.

Registration begins at 9:10 a.m. Saturday in the church patio; Dager’s keynote address is at 11 a.m.; and workshops are from 1 to 2 p.m. Cost is $10.
