Woman dies in head on collision

A woman riding in a motorcycle side car died Sunday morning after colliding head on with a full size van one mile south of Independence Trail on Highway 49.

The man driving the motorcycle received major injuries and was flown by Calstar to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, said Captain Jerry Funk of Nevada County Consolidated Fire Station 84 in Nevada City.

The helicopter landed on the old South Yuba bridge in the popular recreation area busy with tourists and swimmers, Funk said.

The two occupants in the van were not injured, Funk said.
