Woman arrested on embezzlement, burglary charges

A Grass Valley woman was arrested Saturday on suspicion of embezzlement and burglary at the store where she was employed.

Staci G. Vieira, 36, was arrested at the Golden Empire Market at Empire and South Auburn streets by Grass Valley Police, according to Officer Doug Clark.

“They realized their profits had gone down during her tenure there,” from late September of last year to Saturday, Clark said. The store began viewing video of its operation and allegedly found Vieira taking money from the till, he added.

“After people would leave the store, she would cancel the sale and pocket the money,” Clark said. How much was taken is still under an accounting investigation, he added, but the charges alleged more than $400 was taken.

Vieira was booked into the county’s Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and was free on a $10,000 bail Sunday afternoon.
