‘Without Borders – Sin Fronteras’ at Morris Garage

John Barbato, an American living in Mexico, will have an exhibition of recent paintings, “Without Borders-Sin Fronteras,” at The Morris Garage in Nevada City.

Barbato’s work examines life in modern Mexico and the cross-cultural influences between the Hispanic and Anglo societies. “Art transcends borders,” he says. “People have been wandering all over the world since feet were invented, and it’s absurd to put up walls, either in Berlin or Texas, to impede these migrations.” His work depicts life “on the other side” of the border and reflects his experiences as the foreigner in a Latin- American culture.

The exhibition begins today and continues through June 10, when there will be a 6-10 p.m. artist’s reception; Barbato will perform some of his poems, stories and songs, starting at 7:30 p.m. The Morris Garage is at 10732 Willow Valley Road (less than a mile from town) Nevada City.
