‘Winter Blues’ exhibit opens tonight with reception

The “Winter Blues” Exhibition opens tonight at the Neighborhood Center of the Arts, with a reception taking place from 5 to 8 p.m. This, the first in the organization’s 2006 exhibition schedule, showcases scenes and colors of the season and continues through April 14.

Despite what the title of the exhibit implies, “Winter,” says Director Glen Baird, “is a favorite time of year for many of our artists. While it may be cold outside, the creative energies inside our studios are not diminished at this time of year. We have been encouraging our artists to be inspired by thoughts of winter, and the results range from moody, abstract works in tones of blues and grays to more traditional winter landscapes.”

In addition to 20 new pieces by 15 artists, the studio will be filled with other paintings and drawings, ceramics, weavings, woodworking and jewelry created by the 58 artists with developmental disabilities at the Neighborhood Center.

Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday; admission is free and open to the public. The address is 200 Litton Drive, Suite 212 (park and enter at t he rear of building), Grass Valley. Call 272-7287 for more information.

The Center’s next exhibition opens with the Spring Fling Performance event on April 28.
