William Fairchild

Memorial services for William Frees Fairchild of Grass Valley will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the Mission Bethel Community Church (Red Dog Church) on Red Dog Road in Grass Valley.

Mr. Fairchild died Thursday, Nov. 7, in Grass Valley. He was 72.

He was born Oct. 24, 1930, in Burwick, Pa., to John Monroe and Esther (Frees) Fairchild. He was raised and attended school in Burwick, and graduated from Burwick High School. He eloped with Helen Kartychok and joined the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, they moved to California. They lived in the Bay Area for many years before divorcing.

He was an ambulance and rescue driver and EMT for several years before becoming a big-rig truck driver. He enjoyed the mountains, panning for gold, riding motorcycles, woodworking and leather crafts.

He is survived by his daughters, Mortishia Fairchild of Vallejo and Lee Fairchild of Napa; grandson, Jon Duncan of Vallejo; great-grandsons, Sam and Curtis; and companion, Teresa West. He was preceded in death by his son, Jon Fairchild, in 1969.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
