William Burnes

Services for William Aaron Burnes of Grass Valley will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Nevada City chapel of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.

Mr. Burnes died Monday, March 13, in Grass Valley. He was 38.

He was born May 29, 1967, in Napa, to Ron Burnes and Linda Johnson-Burnes. He graduated from the Maritime Fire Academy. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. 3rd Recon Battalion. He was a commercial fisherman, chief engineer and general contractor. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a history buff, and enjoyed gardening, building, traveling, barbecues and music.

He is survived by his fiancee, Joell Sweeney; father, Ron Burnes; mother, Linda Johnson-Burnes; siblings Christine, Julie, Jennifer, Ron, Jim, Sarah, Ruth, John, Lorie, and Mike; grandmothers Ruth Burnes and Gloria Johnson; and 16 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers William E. Burnes in 1956, and Aaron E. Johnson in 1980; and great-grandfather Laverne Johnson in 1970.

Memorial contributions may be made to the William A. Burnes Memorial Fund at Washington Mutual Bank, account number 1961491338.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
