William Bishop

Memorial services for William “Bill” Bishop of Grass Valley will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley.

Mr. Bishop died Wednesday, Feb. 23. He was 85.

He was born March 18, 1919, in Braymer, Mo., to Frank George Bishop and Ina Bell McBee. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1940 to 1947. He married Beatrice in May 1971. He retired from the Metropolitan Water District in La Virne in 1983.



He was a member of the Grass Valley Male Voice Choir. He enjoyed fishing and music and he played the recorder. He was a beekeeper for years and was a member of the Nevada County Beekeeper’s Association. He enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Goldancers Square Dance Club for many years. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Grass Valley and sang in the church choir for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; children Dennis Bishop, Roberta De Maria, Kerry Hastert, Candace Rende, Bridget Herrera; stepchildren Richard De Vore, Diane De Vore-Farrugia, Tom Mortenson, Doug Mortenson and Janet Young; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
