Were you there in 1967?

It’s quite a story: A middle-aged woman, Ronnie Sprague (played by Sue LeGate) was only 12 when a chance meeting with Janis Joplin at the Monterey Pop Festival changed her life forever. Now, 41 years later, as a tribute to Joplin, Sprague has assembled a rag-tag group of aged folk singers, The Steel Sieve Band (Chris Crockett and Greg Gavin and newcomer Dave Halford), to help her re-create the summer of 1967.

What was that summer, also called by many the birth of the hippie movement, all about? Well, there was a human be-in at Golden Gate park and the Diggers in Haight-Ashbury. Many California events brought together the likes of The Mamas & The Papas, We Five, Simon and Garfunkel, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, Sonny & Cher and Joan Baez. What a summer to remember. Nostalgia is in the air with such songs as “You Were On My Mind,” “California Dreamin’,” ” The Beat Goes On,” “Somebody To Love” and “Piece o’My Heart.”

Audience members are encouraged to go for it and dress as “flower children” for this world premier.
