WEB UPDATE: Major storm to hit Nevada County

A winter storm and wind advisory has been issued for tonight in the foothills and upper Sierra of Nevada County.

A major storm is slated to hit by 5 p.m. which could make after-work traffic troublesome, said Steve Martinez of the Qwikcast.com weather service. He said the storm could bring up to one inch of rain per hour in spots through Wednesday morning.

The thunderstorm was traveling at 50 mph and caused a 62-mph gust at San Francisco International Airport, Martinez said. It is expected to bring frequent lightning and wind gusts from 50 to 60 mph.
