WEB UPDATE: Friday travel warning

The National Weather Service has issued a travel advisory for the Sierra on Friday, due to a new storm system moving in from the Pacific Ocean.

The system could bring rain and winds from the valley floor rising to the lower and mid elevations of the range. The National Weather Service said Friday travel over the Interstate 80 and Highway 50 mountain passes could be treacherous with snow and wind gusts up to 50 mph.

Snow levels will be at 5,000 to 6,500 feet, according to Steve Martinez of the Qwikcast.com weather service. Martinez said the storm system’s southern end will follow the Interstate 80 corridor and will clear out by Saturday morning for a dry weekend.
