Water district looking at ways to honor Ernie Bierwagen

Memorial will honor

NID director Bierwagen

A community effort to recognize longtime Nevada Irrigation District board member Ernst L. “Ernie” Bierwagen is under way.

A site is being planned on NID property overlooking Rollins Reservoir to be developed through donations and community participation. A bank account for donations has been established at the Grass Valley Bank of America.

Bierwagen, a lifelong Chicago Park resident and orchardist, served 25 years on the NID board, and was the second longest serving director in NID history. He died at 88 in February, 2004. Details of the campaign will be announced soon and a groundbreaking is being tentatively planned for May.
