Washington chooses interim fire chief

The Washington Fire Protection District has selected a 17-year veteran of another local fire department for its interim fire chief position.

Mike Stewart, an engineer with Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, is also the son of Judi Stewart, the president of the Washington County Water District Board. The water board runs the fire department.

Stewart’s job will be to train firefighters and the department’s permanent chief.
