Walter Otto

Private family services were held for Walter Hamilton Otto of Grass Valley.

Dr. Otto died Thursday, Sept. 19, in Grass Valley. He was 81.

He was born Aug. 28, 1921, in San Francisco to Walter and Marguerite Otto. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He graduated from San Jose State College with a bachelor of arts and Johns Hopkins Medical School with a medical degree. He married Carol on June 22, 1947, in Huntington, W.Va.



He was a medical doctor from 1952 to 1995 in Saratoga. He was a member of the Saratoga Federated Church and the Santa Clara County Medical Society. He enjoyed photography and his dog, Mollie.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol M. Otto of Grass Valley; daughters and sons-in-law Penelope and Donald Hansen of Grass Valley and Wendy and Jim San Filippo of Penn Valley; son and daughter-in-law, Walter H. Otto III and Cindi Otto of Minden, Nev.; grandsons Joshua Hansen, Lucas Hansen, Nick San Filippo and Joshua Otto; granddaughters Micaela San Filippo and Tyra Porras; and great-grandchildren Hailee Porras and Mack Porras.




Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
