Memorial services for Walter S. Haynes Jr. of Penn Valley will be conducted at 6 p.m. today at Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley. A private burial will take place at the San Joaquin National Cemetery

Mr. Haynes died Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Grass Valley. He was 80.



He was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Keener, Mo., to Walter S. Haynes Sr. and Cassie Ann Holder. He married Lourena on July 7, 1947, in Reno. He was a chief botswains mate in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He retired from Vallejo as a carpenter. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He enjoyed carpentry, sketching and leather work.

He is survived by his wife, Lourena G. Haynes, of Healy, Kan.; daughters Jean Sanchez of Manzanola, Colo., and Donna Robertson and Denise Haynes, both of Vallejo; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.




Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary.
