Wallace took stand today

Susan Wallace, who was stabbed in the neck and abdomen and had her home set ablaze in the early morning hours of May 7, 2005, took the stand this afternoon in the trial of her accused assailant.

Nevada County Consolidated Fire District’s Fire Marshal Vernon Canon testified this morning that several knives were found throughout Susan Wallace’s home during the investigation of the fire allegedly set by Fred Engel.

Engel is charged with six felony counts, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, arson and two counts of animal cruelty. He pleaded innocent last August by reason of insanity.

This morning, Canon said four to five knives of various sizes were found in the kitchen area and the office area of Wallace’s home, which is near the area Wallace was allegedly attacked by Engel.
