Wallace Field

A memorial mass for Wallace H. Field of Cedar Ridge will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 235 Chapel St. in Grass Valley. Burial will take place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Grass Valley

Mr. Field died Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. He was 82.

He was born May 17, 1921, in San Diego to Wallace and Lillian (Perkins) Field.



He served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne during World War II. He did two combat jumps and received the bronze star and purple heart.

He worked in the solar aircraft industry for 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was one of the first scuba divers, and he enjoyed the ocean.




He was an avid skin diver and sports fisherman until he moved to Cedar Ridge in 1978 to care for his mother.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Larson of Grass Valley; and grandson, Richard Larson of San Diego.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Field; mother, Lillian Keen; and stepfather, Jack Keen.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School, 400 S. Church St., Grass Valley 95945.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
