Volunteers to work with troops, families

Volunteers interested in relaying emergency messages from families to active military personnel can get involved through a class this weekend.

The local Red Cross will offer a class from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday on “Service to Armed Forces: Emergency Messaging and Financial Assistance.” The training will be held at the Latter Day Saints Church, 1450 East Lassen Ave., in Chico.

The Red Cross is the go-to organization for the Department of Defense to provide emergency messages to people in active military service.

Volunteers in this program can offer as many hours of service each month as they’d like, and they work from home with a computer and telephone.

The class is free. For more information or to register, call (530) 272-3265 and ask for Charles.
