Veronica LaFata

Memorial services for Veronica LaFata of Grass Valley will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Chapel of the Angels in Grass Valley.

Mrs. LaFata died Sunday, Feb. 3, in Grass Valley. She was 84.



She was born May 2, 1917, in San Francisco to Edward and Anne Mulhern. She attended St. Peter’s Academy, St. Charles Business High School and Munson Business School.




She and her husband moved to Grass Valley in 1977, after she retired from the San Francisco Printing Agency, publishers of the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Young Ladies Institute, American Legion Auxiliary, Alta Sierra Golf and Country Club and played with the Nifty Niners and the FA GA WEES. She was a member of the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in the emergency room for many years. She also volunteered at Hospice of the Foothills Thrift Shop and was a certified advocate with the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Coalition.

She is survived by her daughter and her companion, Janis Woods and Fred Edwards of San Jose; stepdaughter, Linda; stepson, Steve; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; son, Ronald Keelan; parents; one brother and two sisters.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels.
