Verna Mae Chacon

Verna Mae Chacon died Feb. 14 in Nevada City. She was 64.

Visitation will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m., Friday at St. Canice Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place at 10 a.m., Feb. 25, at Sierra Memorial Lawn.

Mrs. Chacon was born Sept. 13, 1943, in Oakland to Rev. Werner Gamb and Mrs. Marie Gamb. She lived in her father’s parsonage. She attended Chabot College. She loved her Lord all her life and cared for numerous foster children. She enjoyed flower gardening, walking, singing, traveling, writing and spending time at the ocean with her husband, Don.

Mrs. Chacon is survived by her husband, Don Chacon of Nevada City; sister and brother-in-law, Ali and Bob Bellis Burns of North Tustin; brothers and sisters-in-law Ken and Barbara Gamb of Iowa City, Iowa, and Jim and Pam Gamb of Newport, Ore.; sister, Liz Wright of Santa Rosa; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Joel Zurlo of Maui, Hawaii; son, Troy Shackleton of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Werner Gamb and Mrs. Marie Gamb.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills in Grass Valley, Cancer Aide Thrift Store or any cancer research.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Angels Mortuary in Grass Valley.
