Vandals destroy mailboxes, other property

Dozens of mailboxes and other personal property including fences and newspaper tubes were vandalized in the Sherwood Forest area in southern Nevada County last night.

“We’ve had calls from about 40 people,” Nevada County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Powell said Monday afternoon. “It looks like over 100 incidents.”

At 6:28 a.m. this morning, a caller from the 15000 block of Auburn Road reported mailboxes and street signs had been knocked over. At 6:44 a.m., a caller from the 13000 block of Khalid Court reported mailboxes were vandalized.

Then the calls started rolling in from Friar Tuck Road, Thoroubred Loop, Swaps Court, Mallory Court and Robinhood Drive from victims of vandalism.

Powell said juveniles are most likely to blame, and they probably rammed the property with their vehicles or used baseball bats.

Deputies have no leads at this point, he said.

No one called law enforcement to report the vandalism while it was occurring, he said.
