Van Zant joins Sierra Watch

Former county supervisor Peter Van Zant has joined Sierra Watch in an effort to stop development at Donner Summit.

Van Zant will serve as Field Director for the Nevada City based non-profit. He served two terms as a Nevada County Supervisor and is past president of the South Yuba River Citizens League.

As Sierra Watch Field Director Van Zant’s primary responsibility will be to lead in an effort to defend Donner Summit from harmful development, said Executive Director Tom Mooers in a statement to The Union.

A development of 900 new homes has been proposed for the headwaters of the Yuba River by the owners of Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort. Sierra Watch has hired several experts to determine how the development will impact the natural resources of the region.
