Up to 20 non-injury accidents reported Sunday

Grass Valley Police reported up to 20 car accidents on local streets occurred in the span of about one hour during Sunday’s evening snowstorm.

Drivers began sliding off the road and into each other at an alarming rate at approximately 4:50 p.m. Sunday with the downfall, causing a flurry of non-injury accidents.

Grass Valley Police Sgt. Joe Matteoni said drivers lost control of their vehicles mainly because they were unprepared for snow conditions.

Police called in extra officers to help with the accidents. A total of twelve were reported between 4:54 p.m. and 6:04 p.m.

Several accidents police encountered were not reported, bringing the total number of storm-related fender benders in city limits to about 20, Matteoni said.
