Unique bamboo bike reportedly stolen in Grass Valley

An original bamboo bicycle regularly on display in downtown Grass Valley was reported stolen from a display window of the Bamboo Home Store at 108 Mill St. at around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

“That is just crazy,” said Tia Hollingsworth, co-owner of Bamboo Home Store. “It was a bamboo bicycle that has been in our window the past three years.”

The bicycle is a Missueli brand bamboo bicycle with carbon fiber forks and joints and hemp-wrapped wires, Hollingsworth said.

“There’s no other like it,” Hollingsworth said. “Its worth is valued at about $3,000. We’ve been trying to send it out so everyone knows.”

The bicycle was made by a man in Stockton, Hollingsworth said, who made the bike from bamboo grown in Rocklin.

“It was locally made and he’s no longer making them,” Hollingsworth said. “It’s very unique. There’s nothing like it.”

If the bike is found, Grass Valley Police Department should be contacted at (530) 477-4600.

“We would like to find the person that did this because this was kind of our mascot,” Hollingsworth said. “We love the bike and would really like to get the person caught.”
