Ugandan forced to nix gig

Samite’s gig for KVMR nightLIVE! on April 11 at Center for the Arts has been canceled due to illness in his family.

The Ugandan musician, composer and recording artist fled Kenya in 1982 as a political refugee and emigrated to the United States five years later.

The Itals will play roots reggae April 12 at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center.

The Jamaican group has performed since the 1980s.

Doors open at 8 p.m., and the show starts one hour later.

Admission is $15. Tickets are at Foggy Mountain Music, BriarPatch, the door and all Tickets.com outlets.

St. Joseph’s Cultural Center is at 410 S. Church St. in Grass Valley.
