Two poets to share from the heart, soul

Imagine a poet who has worked with The Temptations, even Maya Angelou. That would be Terry Moore. The author of 15 poetry books and seven spoken-word CDs, Moore is on fire. You can bet he’s won some awards, the latest of which is “Sounds of Soul” Black Music Awards 2005 Best Male Spoken Word Performer. Moore’s poetry is an in-your-face, aimed-at-the-heart conformation of language and emotion, and his stage presence is beyond dynamic. Check him out at http://www.terrymoore.info.

The other poet of the evening is Theresa McCourt, a transplant from Manchester, England, who has been a businesswoman and columnist for The Sacramento Bee and is now an award-winning poet (a first place recognition in the Maggi H. Meyer Memorial Contest in 2007 and top recognition in the Ina Coolbrith Poetry Contest in 2006). A couple of months ago, McCourt was selected to participate in the 2007 (poet) Artist Residency Institute presented by the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. Sample her work at http://www.poetsonline.org (click on “archives” and then on “Marginalia/Billy Collins, September 2006”).

Enjoy both poets tonight, one that hits the heart every time and the other who gives us the confession of a soul observed, at the Off Center Stage, 315 Richardson St., Grass Valley (behind The Center for the Arts). The show starts at 7:30 p.m.; tickets for $5 general, seniors and students, and $1 for those under 18 may be purchased at the door. Call (530) 432-8196 or (530) 274-8384 for more information.
