Tracy, Gini Ceresola: Randy Young saved our lives

This letter is to recognize Randy Young for saving our lives.

We want to make sure that his children, family, friends and community all know what a hero he is and how he saved us when we had a bad accident.

A year ago on Sept. 6, 2015 we went on a motorcycle ride on a beautiful day to Nevada City. We had an encounter with a deer just a few miles from Nevada City on Highway 49 and we were thrown off the bike down a small hill. From what we know, Randy saw the accident and came down to help us.

Tracy had his lungs collapsed, 10 ribs broken, collar bone and scapula broken in many places. The worst thing was his arm was completed cut open. Randy stopped and got down to us, secured Tracy from continuing to fall down the hill and wrapped his arm to stop the intense bleeding. He was the one who we think saved Tracy’s life.

After this happened, Tracy was in ICU in Roseville and Reno for two and a half weeks and then home for more therapy and recovery. As we tried to make sure we thanked all the people at the hospitals and others for all their help, we kept thinking we needed to know who this person was that kept Tracy alive before the paramedics, ambulances and helicopter came.

We did not know who he was and then one day we had a phone call from the California Highway Patrol saying that the guy who helped us wanted to talk to us. We got his number, called him and he told us about what happened and how the deer actually rammed us.

When we healed enough to travel, we went to meet him and he showed us the accident.

What a fantastic person and a real hero. If it wasn’t for his quick thinking and action, we would not be where we are today. We hope everyone can know about this and what a wonderful person he is. Thank you for letting us share this story.

Tracy and Gini Ceresola live in Sparks, Nevada.
