SIRS Hosts Sheriff Moon—Looking for Volunteers

Bob Welti

Members of Sons In Retirement (SIR) Lake Wildwood Branch and their Lady Guests, in honor of Mother’s Day, enjoyed Nevada County Sheriff Shannon Moon’s Presentation on May 16 at the Community Center in Lake Wildwood. Sheriff Moon, the first woman to be promoted to the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain in the history of the Nevada County’s Sheriff’s Department, talked about her life and the Departments goals and challenges. She said before being Sheriff she was “a doer”, but now she is more of a “delegator” and it’s difficult to fill open positions. Operations Captain Mike Walsh made a pitch for much needed Civilian Volunteers.

SIR luncheons are on the third Thursday of the month. The $20 Lunch Cost includes food, service, tax and tip. A wide variety of Programs come from members’ suggestions. SIR is a social and not a service organization. Its goal is to celebrate the dignity of our golden years. No need to be retired. You don’t have to live in Lake Wildwood. Annual Dues are only $20. Please call Bob Welti 432-3025 to learn about SIR’s incentive joining program. Please visit our website at http://www.sirbranch11.com to learn more about SIR. Our next June 20 Meeting features Pepper Steak and Fruit Cobbler for Lunch and Guest Speaker Shelly Covert from the Nevada City Nisenan Indian Tribe.
