Charle Lennon: What America means to me
I received a picture and a Pledge of Support from Ben Carson. He asked me to sign the support pledge and fully back him for president. He expressed an interest in his supporters and wished to know what being an American means to them.
This is the letter I sent to him in response along with my contribution:
Dear Dr. Carson,
Thank you so much for your willingness to run for President of the United States of America.
I admire you and support you but I cannot, at this time, fully back you. I believe you would be an outstanding president and if you win the nomination, I will work hard for you and fully support you.
As a devout Christian, a conservative American, and a believer in the greatness of America, I believe our country is blessed to have both you and Ted Cruz in the race for the most important elected office in the world.
I am listening and carefully watching what you and Ted Cruz are saying and doing. I am also praying for guidance. I take this election very seriously.
You both have amazing stories which fulfill the blueprint of the American Dream.
It appears that you are both devoted to your faith and trust God to lead and guide you.
I believe that both of you would follow the Constitution.
I believe both you and Ted Cruz are honorable and humble men.
You said you are interested in knowing a little about your supporters. I was born in California in 1937.
My dad wanted cowboys to help him on our small ranch in the San Joaquin Valley.
He initially got two daughters and we became his wranglers (our brother was born 10 years later).
My sister, brother and I worked hard, obeyed the rules, got a good education and were full of hope and excitement about life.
We in turn, raised our children but are now watching with horror as our grandchildren grow up in a place we don’t recognize.
I have watched this great state and country slowly be destroyed and crippled by corrupt government, the EPA, liberal Democrats, illegal aliens, teacher’s unions, high taxes, profiteers, welfare, entitlements, illegal drugs, litter, indigents and an immoral, Godless culture.
As a 78-year-old woman, I still believe in the potential greatness of my country. I believe with God’s guidance, we can once again reestablish our place in the world as a beacon of hope.
I believe we can restore a relationship with the Almighty and again be united as One Nation Under God. I believe we can once again be a country that abides by the rule of law with firm reliance on the Constitution.
But, we must stop being politically correct in our speech and thinking. Abortion is murder, people who come to our country illegally are illegal aliens, marriage should be between one man and one woman, and radical Islam is our enemy and a threat to our future.
I believe we must support Israel and stop the foolish rhetoric that declares global warming to be the greatest threat to our country.
Common sense knows that militant, radical Muslims, who say they will wipe Israel off the face of the earth and defiantly burn our flag while shouting, “death to America,” are a far greater threat. These people are neither trustworthy nor sane.
I believe in the free market system, hard work, self-reliance, personal responsibility, and consequences.
I believe that ingenuity, risk taking, and innovation of the American people made this country great … not government!
I believe that those in political office should live under the same rules and laws as “We the People.”
And, I believe in term limits … career politicians should cease to exist.
I want to feel safe, feel patriotic about and proud of my country again, believe that my grandchildren are being taught the truth, know that our military is strong, dependable and committed, know that our borders are sealed and the sovereignty of our country is protected.
I want to know that the men and women we elect to office keep their promises and are proactive in their effort to bring about those things I have mentioned.
You said you wanted to know what being an American means to me and now you have it!
I am praying for you and your family. God bless you.
