CAL FIRE Declares Start of Fire Season

Starting Monday, May 20th, CAL FIRE has declared the beginning of fire season within their State responsibility area. Residential burns will no longer be allowed in CAL FIRE’s responsibility area starting on this date.

Before you burn, it is important to check the burn day status for Nevada County first with the Northern Sierra Air Quality District. Burning is always prohibited in the city limits of Grass Valley and Nevada City. As an alternative to burning, Nevada County is partnering with the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County and Waste Management to provide free residential green waste drop sites every weekend in May.
