Truckee man pleads not guilty to 10 felony counts of sex crimes

TRUCKEE – A Truckee man has pleaded not guilty to 10 felony counts of committing sex acts with a minor, Placer County officials confirmed on Thursday.

Brad Edward Steinhoff, 37, a resident of the Placer County portion of Truckee, was arraigned Oct. 21 at the Tahoe Division of Placer County Superior Courts on Oct. 21, said Kim Hunter, manager of Tahoe City Placer County Superior Court.

Steinhoff’s bail was set at $750,000; his preliminary trial is scheduled for Nov. 2, Hunter said.

“Mr. Steinhoff was having sexual relations with a female … under the age of 18,” said Lt. Jeffrey Ausnow, public information officer with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Ausnow did not reveal details of the case in the interest of protecting the identity of the alleged victim.

“It’s too soon to tell” the amount of prison time Steinhoff could face, Hunter said.

Steinhoff’s attorney could not be reached for comment.
