Tri-5

In the hot rod and classic car world, the term “Tri-5” means a 1955, 1956 or 1957 Chevy. The reason is that they are so popular with car fans that they are a category of cars in themselves. Their lines are classically smooth and uncluttered, making them an automotive work of art. Many people love them and Chuck Lorenson is one of them. Although he had been a Ford man in his early years (his first car being a ’48 Ford), when he was looking for a car in 2001 to get back into the street rodding scene he decided to search for a “Tri-5.”

He found one on the Internet (the 21st century way to find a car). He and his wife Lynn went to Chico to check it out and liked it. It was a frame-off rebuild with a Chevy ZZ3 350CID engine pumping out 345 HP, backed up to a Turbo 350 auto trans. With a fresh paint job of white over blue, it looked as good as it ran. Typically Roamin Angel, Chuck had to make it personal. He dressed up the engine with chrome and stainless steel. He put on a better power steering system. He made this “Tri-5” his “Tri-5.”
