Trees and signs before Nevada City Planning Commission

Trees and signs will be discussed by Nevada City planning commissioners tonight, but these occasionally hot opics are not expected to stir any controversy this time, Commisioner John Parent said.

All of the items have been discussed previously, and the people going before the commission have been amenable to meeting the city’s regulations, Parent said today.

Two pine trees on the 80 block of Mine Road likely will be approved for removal at tonight’s meeting. The item appears on the agenda only because the applicant chose not to remove the third tree that was hanging over his neighbor’s property, Parent said.

Dos Banditos, the new Mexican restaurant and bar on the 100 block of Broad Street, also will likely garner approval for a sign over the sidewalk. If the restaurant wanted to have a sign on the side of the building, the issue would have had to go before the City Council, because the sign would have been visible from the freeway, Parent said.

Commissioners meet at 7 p.m. today at Nevada City Hall on Broad Street.
