Train wreck?

Jeff Pelline’s March 17 editorial was excellent. The subject was both timely and important. However, he doesn’t seem to think much of my Nevada City resolution to end the wars.

Nor did Sheila Stein, Sally Harris, or David McKay.

Jeff, and yet you say, “Like it or not, our county’s economy is hitched to Sacramento’s wagon.” I’m going to finish that sentence for you: “just as Sacramento’s is hitched to Washington’s.” Our own county’s economy is intimately tied to the national economy. And the national economy is almost entirely war-based; which is to say, tragically flawed. (Just imagine the deep happiness that a permanent war-economy would bring!)

If a few of our citizens – perhaps Jeff Pelline among them – don’t see this relationship yet, perhaps they will when they look in their own pocketbooks in the future and see just how much of their own funds Halliburton and company took with them to Dubai.

If you think U.C. administrators are greedy, Jeff, just look at the example being set for them by the folks we elected to national office.

Or maybe Sheila, Sally, and David see it differently.
