Members of Gallery II, a Nevada City cooperative art gallery, are going all out for their winter party Saturday.

For starters, the volunteer artists printed up hundreds of Bic pens last month with the message: “THE PARTY STARTS AT 2 ON 02/02/02 AT GALLERY II.”

“Elaine B. Rothwell, who is our featured artist, did this pen idea at Gallery 9 in Los Altos on 9/9/99,” said Chuck Escott, a gallery member and jewelry maker. “This is her idea that we borrowed. You don’t get that opportunity too often.”

As featured artist, Rothwell will have her etchings displayed on one gallery wall. Her etchings, which include visual puns and hidden chess positions, have been exhibited in national and international juried shows.

The party also includes a new exhibit of works by the 35 gallery artist-members, the artists on hand, and music by Ludi Hinrichs. Art disciplines represented include painting, sculpture, pottery, photography and jewelry.

Saturday’s party will last until closing or until the wine runs out, Escott quipped.

Besides wine, the gallery members will serve hors d’oeuvres and cookies.

Gallery II is at 419 Broad St. Daily hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 470-9222 for more information.
