1. Thomas H. Caswell was elected May 26, 1851, and served in this

position for 8 years.

2. The drawings are too precise, balanced and idealistic to be true likenesses. They appear to include exact details of the shapes, sizes of turrets on a house and number of pickets in a yard fence, and the

position and variety of trees depicted.

3. The Alta Theatre, which was located on Main Street.

4. The early part of the year suffered from severe weather. From May 20 until June 1, there were almost constant snowstorms in and around Meadow Lake.

5. Gold Hill was an early mining camp where hill diggings were found. It was located two miles west of the town of Washington and a little south of the Yuba River.
